"Air King" 4-lug universals are simply a universal quick acting coupling designed for 1-1/4 - 2" hoses which can be used for low pressure fluid transfer or water, such as on washdown hoses in mills. They are NOT recommended for steam service at all, and seldomly recommended by any manufacturers for compressed air service. As with the 2-lug universals, safety clips are highly recommended to prevent accidental disconnection - never disconnect any hose while under pressure. Replacement safety clips & gaskets are listed on the "Universal End Accessories" page in this section of our catalogue. Note: We DO NOT recommend crimp sleeves on 1-1/4"-2" 4-lug cast iron Universals, the cast barb design is not compatible with modern crimping technology. 1-1/4"-2" 4-lug Universals should not be used in critical applications as they are an older legacy product that is of inadequate design for proper coupling integrity and do not provide a high enough level of safety or reliability - especially in applications subject to pressure and/or temperature. For compressed air in sizes over 1", we recommended to use "Dixon Boss Ground Joints" or "Campbell Viton Seal Ground Joint Couplings" - not 4-Lug Universals.
