NL4550 'rubber' air brake is designed for compressed air brake systems on trucks and buses. This hose meets SAE J1402 specifications and DOT regulation FMVSS-106 (anyone making brake assemblies must register with DOT and ensure each assembly complies with FMVSS-106). Rubber air brake hose is typically used where it will be subject to gravel, rocks, oil, vibration, etc. - whereas the NL560 series 'nylon' air brake is typically routed inside the frame where it will not be subject to debris, vibration, etc. The NL4550 is a standard hose and the NL4553 is designed for use in very cold environments down to -54°C (-65°F) (meets MIL-H-3992 Type 1 Class 1).
